Computer Science Graduate
from University of California Santa Cruz
I am James Yim, a Software Engineer based in the Bay Area with a degree in Computer Science from UC Santa Cruz. I want to build software that enables humans to focus on what matters most. Software is a tool, not a replacement and my motivations follow that idea. Outside of building, I've spent time teaching Computer Science, driven by that same idea: giving people the tools to create. When I'm not building, you can find me setting up my mise en place, analyzing racing lines, or relaxing with my favorite game.
I reach for Python most often, with TypeScript when I need something in the browser. I've mostly learned in C and C++ giving me a great baseline on responsible programming, which shapes how I write everything else.
Docker, AWS, Terraform, GitHub Actions, CI/CD, PostgreSQL the tools I use to implement the infrastructure that makes software actually usable by other people, not just runnable on my machine.
Godot and Unity, from a background in game design. I like thinking about systems and feedback loops as much as backend logic.
Agentic AI systems, TUI/CLI design, and compiler fundamentals are the stuff I'm currently pulling apart to understand better.
